Requesting to drop a shift sends it straight to the manager's approval queue — same as any other swap request.
Swap Requests
An employee asks to drop a shift — approving it opens the slot back up automatically.
Coverage Overview
Why This App
This is a simplified version of a tool built for businesses that schedule hourly staff — retail, restaurants, anywhere shift coverage actually matters day to day.
Look at the Schedule tab — Saturday and Sunday are flagged in red because they're short-staffed, calculated live from how many people are actually assigned versus how many the shift needs. Add someone to Saturday Morning on the Add Shift tab and watch the flag clear.
Check Swap Requests — approving a pending request removes that person from the shift immediately, which can turn a fully-covered shift into a gap. The schedule always reflects reality, not last week's plan.
Try My Shifts — this is the employee's own side, not just the manager's. Marcus Webb and Priya Anand are both sitting at exactly 40 hours this week. Assign either of them one more shift from the Add Shift tab and watch it flag overtime immediately — real cost visibility most basic schedulers charge extra for.
The Total Weekly Labor Cost on the Dashboard isn't just hours times wage — it correctly applies time-and-a-half to anything past 40 hours, per employee, per their own real rate. Push Marcus into overtime and watch the total jump by more than a straight hourly rate would explain.
On the Schedule tab, each assigned name has a small × next to it — pull someone off a shift directly, no swap request needed, and the coverage count updates honestly right there, including flipping a fully-staffed shift into a real gap if that's what actually happens.
The Viewing Week selector at the top isn't cosmetic — it's four genuinely separate weeks with real dates, each with its own coverage, hours, and labor cost. Overtime and gaps are calculated per week, not lumped together, because that's the only way the numbers actually mean anything for planning ahead.
Nobody notices a shift is short until someone doesn't show
Coverage gaps are flagged automatically, calculated from real headcount against what's actually needed.
Shift swaps happen over text with no record anywhere
A swap request is tracked and approved in the app, and the schedule updates the moment it's approved.
